Since it is difficult for the maximum efficiency of these engines to be higher than 42 , large amount of fuel energy is rejected from the engine to the surroundings as waste heat in several forms. In a Diesel engine in full load, 30 of fuel energy is wasted through exhaust gases, 25 through engine coolant as well as lubrication oil and 7 through friction losses.
